Born 6:50 pm, January 27, 1946. Came Out 6:51 pm, January 27, 1946. Actually, it was a feeling that came into focus about dozen years later. Somehow I always have known, yet never gave it much thought. I guess you could say I always have been out although I never have worn neon signs or screamed it from rooftops. The only thing I ever hid in the closet was a homemade chemistry set with which I about burned down our house. I just recall growing up and being rather happy and acting naturally. My mother's only concern was who could I dance with at this or that affair. My father's only concern was whether or not I changed the oil in my vintage Volkswagon in a timely manner. The first time I ever heard the word lesbian used in the same breath as my name was by one of the nuns at school. I sorted it out for a minute, looked at her, and said, "pretty neat, huh?" Sex never entered the picture, mainly because my parents had this requirement of waiting on things like that, but sooner or later it happened, and well, it seemed all natural too. My uncle used to tell me, you only go around once in this old world, and we deserve all the happiness we can get. Having parents and relatives and coworkers accept me for who I am has made my life very blessed.
