Well, of course the most popular New Year's Resolution is to lose weight. We put it off and push it back all year long then muster up the determination, commitment and dedication to "get in shape". We spend money on fitness equipment, gym memberships, and expensive cookbooks. It usually lasts about 3 weeks. What happens? We don't get immediate results. We don't change our habits and lifestyle. We just get plain old sick and tired of deprivation and "doing without".
I am like most of America-I, too, am going to lose weight this year. Not the extra pounds around the middle. I am talking about the weight of burdens that are holding me down: procrastination, tasks, issues, old scores, resentment, bitterness, anger, doubt, fear, and self-pity.
I am going to clean house: every room, every corner, and every closet of my soul. I will identify these weights, prioritize them and then begin to sift through whatever circumstance brought them to me. I will force myself to examine why I choose to hang on to them and their destructive power over me.
I may not be able to change the direction of the wind, but I can choose to loosen the bindings to the issues and feelings that seem to navigate me. I can stop putting off today what I know I will not face tomorrow.
Life is a voyage in which we choose neither vessel nor weather, but much can be done in the management of the sails and the guidance of the helm.
Yep, I can't weight to lose the wait.
