Previously on "The L Word". . .
Things are moving along with "Lez Girls" as the cast all gets together for the first table reading. Of course Jenny is all excited when she introduces herself.
Tina and Bette run into each other and Bette says that Tina is avoiding her. At first Tina tries denying it and then admits that she is. Bette wants to talk but they're having a hard time finding time with their schedules and decide that they'll talk when they talk.
Alice sees Daryl Brewer, the gay basketball player who was at the underground party, on national TV totally bashing gays. Tasha makes an off-handed comment about wishing she could out him. . .
Shane stops by Shebar and notices that they have expanded, despite their promise to Kit to not try and take away any of her business. They are serving breakfast, coffee and have a drive-thru window (Kit's idea that she mentioned to the owners, Dawn and Lover Cindy). Lover Cindy flirts with Shane and invites her over to her house. When Shane shows up, she discovers that Dawn isn't there and initially tries hard to get Cindy to call Dawn, etc. but Cindy says it's okay and so Shane gives in and hooks up with her.
Niki is trying on different outfits to play "Jessie." She asks Jenny if she has a girlfriend and Jenny responds with that she "has to be a big girl and be serious about my work." WTF? I don't know about anyone else but I don't think we could handle Jenny having a girlfriend. Then she makes a rude remark about Adele having camel toe.
There's going to be a big cast party at Jenny's and Shane is busy making "party brownies." Max is there and has been noticing inconsistencies in Adele's comments about her past and voices his concern but everyone thinks that Adele is nice and cute.
Alice arrives and makes a comment about Jenny's "indentured servant" and Max asks if it seems that Adele isn't who she pretends to be. Alice was extremely rude by replying that Max is a fine one to talk--again, since when is Alice so intolerant? Max does a background check on Adele and tells the others that this is some discrepancies and so Jenny calls Adele in, who is able to bluff her way through explaining them. The others buy it but Max really doesn't. (Is anyone else reminded of "Single White Female" when seeing Adele?)
Alice made a podcast of Daryl Brewer and has Max upload it to OurChart. The video spreads like wildfire and makes the national news. Alice gets invited to be on a news show and is initially blasted by the news guy for reporting it--he says that Daryl Brewer has the freedom of speech, etc. Alice finally blasts back and points out that Daryl's sort of speech is hateful, hurtful, and dangerous and that he's a hypocrite for saying it, especially since he's gay and in the spotlight. The news guy backs off a bit.
Tina talks to Adele and tells her to kind of watch out for Jenny, for Jenny's sake. Tina wants to know if there's anything going on that could possibly affect production and when she emphasizes that it's for Jenny's sake, Adele agrees.
Later, Bette calls Tina under the pretense of wanting to know if Tina will be able to keep Angie on a particular weekend. Tina senses that something's wrong and Bette goes into what's going on with Jodi at the school and Tina winds up giving advice, while rolling her eyes. I feel your pain, Tina.
Bette tells Jodi that she doesn't want to go to the party and wants to stay home and reconnect. Jodi says that she wants to dance and tells Bette that they can go for awhile and connect later.
The party is in full swing and the gang meet the actresses who will be playing them. The gal playing Shane is totally straight and makes a huge point of mentioning her boyfriend to Shane and how she's "gay for pay." Shane offers her some party brownies, which she declines, and tells her that the brownies aren't gay.
Bette meets the actress who is playing her and gets extremely upset when the actress starts questioning her on why she slept with the plumber, etc. Bette reminds her that it's fiction and makes a comment about how she can't believe that they casted such a white actress. She wants to leave and tells Jodi so but Jodi is busy talking to someone and Bette accuses her of flirting and leaves without Jodi. Outside, she runs into Tina and Tina apologizes for what the actress did and Bette tells Tina that she still doesn't have any of the answers to the "whys." They finally talk about the kiss and agree that it's not going to happen again and Bette asks Tina if she's sorry that it happened and Tina said that she is. Then Tina asks Bette if she's in love with Jodi and after the slightest of hesitations, Bette says yes.
Dawn and Lover Cindy show up uninvited to the party to call out Shane for hooking up with Lover Cindy. Everyone is high and laughing and that pisses off Dawn even more who threatens to ruin Shane and all of her friends, including the Planet. Don't you just love how Lover Cindy doesn't say anything to stop it and Dawn for being dumb in not realizing that Lover Cindy is just as guilty as it takes 2 to tangle.
Jenny and Niki reinact the first time Marina and Jenny meet but they take it a step further and wind up hooking up in the closet. Adele is going around and picking up glasses and bottles and spots the two of them and takes note. She is a creepy one.
Tasha finally shows up to the party and blasts Alice for what she did with the podcast. Alice says that she did it for her based on her comment. Tasha says that Alice doesn't stop and think and Alice says she's getting tired of hearing stuff like that. Tasha tells her that she never stopped to wonder if such a thing would be a good idea considering that Tasha is being investigated. Alice blasts back by saying that she didn't sign up to be in the closet and both of them part ways by saying that they can't be around the other.
The gang sneaks over to Bette's to go swimming. The noise wakes Bette, who calls the cops to report a noise complaint on her neighbors. Tina is really drunk and trying to call a cab when Jodi spots her and brings her over to Bette's and Tina passes out on the couch. The noise causes Bette to get out of bed and she has the funniest of looks seeing Tina sleeping on the couch.
Next time: Shane tries to apologize to Dawn. Tasha and Alice say farewell. And what's going on with Bette and Tina?
