Episode 2

Previously on "The L Word". . .

I realized at the start of the second episode this season that they're not doing the flashback sort of thing. That kind of bums me out because I liked seeing how what happened in the past made for the story being told today.

Alice is looking for Papi and she learns that it means "daddy." A lot of people, both men and women, are trying to tell Alice that they're Papi. Alice is beginning to think that she's being led on a wild goose chase until she finally does meet up with Papi, who has a decked out limo. She interviews Papi and then they go to the limo, which has a bed and Papi tells Alice that she's going to take her to places she's never been before. Alice is doubtful but Papi keeps true to her word.

Shane's looking for her dad and can't find him. Max says that there's this "great new program for tracking down people." The geek in me rolled her eyes--yes, there are programs useful for tracking down people BUT a person has to have left some sort of record for it to be useful--such as setting up new utility services, a speeding ticket, etc. Such programs are available to the public for a fee or to law enforcement for free. Anyway, what has annoyed me about Max continues to annoy me--he always "knows" something about whatever (I wish I knew more about cars and boats to be able to verify if the information he is spouting off is accurate or not) and in the computer area, it hasn't been the most accurate information. And during all of this, Jenny, the other person who has annoyed me since Day 1, says, in front of Shay, that Shane's trying to get the kid off her hands.

Bette starts her new job and gets to interview teaching assistants. One of the TAs has the hots for Bette and flirts with her during the interview. She gets a chance at the job. Bette's new boss, Phyllis, tells Bette that she knows that she's a lesbian. She tells how she fell in love with a woman in college but never acted on it. She wonders if it's too late (in coming to terms) and Bette tells her it's never too late.

Tina meets her new boss at the movie studio and manages to keep her job because she landed the rights to make a movie that everyone wants to make. She also gets told that she has to fire Helena.

Everyone's at The Planet and Kit has had her abortion. We learn that Tina has had 2. Shane finally shows up at The Planet with Shay. Shane realizes that Helena is rather upset with her and Alice points out to her that she was the one hurt the most after Carmen. Shane asks Alice what she can do to make it up to her and Alice asks Shane if she's got $4 million in a sock somewhere.

Max goes out with the boss' daugther and the date goes rather well. The daughter says she's never met a man who understands the stuff that women deal with--wonder what she'll think when she realizes that the man she's dating was once a woman. They kiss at the doorstep--typical heterosexual type date (hey, when I was fooling myself into thinking I was straight back in my youth, I had gone on a few dates that were like that:-) Now there's the possibility of a real good story here with Max and this girl possibly going further--I hope the writers don't botch it up.

The gang talks about Shane's options with Shay. Shane is totally against foster care. While the conversation is going on, Shay comes over and says he feels like he's going to throw up and Shane points out the bathroom to him. The girls all tell her that she needs to go with him and she doesn't know why. After she leaves, they all agree that Shane is not ready for a kid and how she wasn't ready for Carmen.

Jenny has an interview with someone from Curve Magazine and feels that it went really well. The interviewer made her feel very comfortable and Jenny opened up to her like she hadn't before. Jenny was stunned when the writer ripped her book apart in the review. She reads the review at home and starts dropping f-bombs and the "C" word in front of Shay. Shane tells Jenny to knock it off but Jenny keeps it up. Shane initially was going to leave Shay with Jenny (which I thought was a bad idea to start with) and changes her mind after Jenny starts going on her rant. Jenny tries getting Shay to say that the writer is a f-ing "C" word. Later she goes to Curve's offices and throws a fit. She is one whacked out chick.

Alice has an all-nighter with Papi, who drops her off at her place in the morning as Helena is getting ready to go out for a jog. The rocking limo catches Helena's attention and Helena laughs when she sees Alice crawling out, looking all disheveled. Helena jogs by the limo and Papi catches her attention. . .

Shane takes Shay to work with her. He winds up running away from there and Shane gets the whole gang out looking for him. A trucker picks him up and is able to call Shane to give him back to her. Shane asks him where he thought he was going and he said that he was going hom and Shane tells him that she's his home now and that they both have to get used to it.

Alice and Bette are at a park when they get the call from Shane telling them that Shay's been found. AS they are sitting there, they hear some movement coming out of the bushes and there's Helena and Papi. . .

Next time: Phyllis goes to a hot woman's party and decides that she likes Alice. Shane and Papi meet up. Shane tries to get Shay enrolled in school. Bette's TA really hits on her.
