We didn't have this web site up and running last year so we couldn't do the update for the first season. But for those ladies who aren't able to watch the show last season or who can't watch it this season, we're going to keep you updated on the L.A. group of lesbians. If you missed season 1, it's available in stores on DVD. I'm sure that Blockbuster has it available for rent as they carried Queer as Folk when it came out.

During the first season, we were introduced to a group of lesbians--most of whom hang out together on a regular basis, some having had past flings together. We have:

• Bette: Works at an art museum. Very much career-oriented and is in a long-term relationship with Tina. They tried having a child together but Tina lost the baby. Bette is very much a control freak and really needs to lighten up. She wound up cheating (and getting caught) on Tina at the end of the season with a carpenter (Candance).
• Tina: Quit her job so that she could try and get pregnant and be a stay at home mom. She was kind of whiney while she was pregnant, hell, even before she was pregnant so I don't think it was just hormones. Her and Bette were having problems in their relationship even before Tina got pregnant. After losing the baby, Tina got involved in volunteer work and started appearing to be a not so whiney person. Tina was never with a woman before Bette.
• Alice: Writes for a local magazine and has developed a matrix of sorts of who has slept with whom (Alice and Bette had a past fling and just about everyone has been connected to Shane). Alice has decided that she is bi and briefly dated a male identified lesbian named Lisa. One of her past girlfriends came back into the picture and it was obvious from her friends' comments that this gal was bad news and the gal wound up starting to treat Alice like crap again but Alice finally told her off. Alice is one of my favorites because she's always making the funny observations ("100 yarder"--which means, you can tell she's a lesbian from a 100 yards away) and has decided that Dana's strange new girlfriend killed Dana's cat (Mr. P.).
• Shane: Works as a hairdresser after having worked the streets turning tricks. Avoids getting emotionally involved--usually doesn't allow herself to feel but did when she got involved with a married woman. Is often mistaken for a gay man.
• Dana: Is the naive one of the bunch. Works as a professional tennis player and was in the closet at the start of the season, which ultimately was the reason for the breakup with this gal (Lara) who worked at the country club where she practices. She came out to her parents, as well as to the world, during an ad campaign. She met some groupie sort at a weekend function and is currently engaged to her.
• Jenny: She is my least favorite. She was engaged to Tim, who lives next door to Bette and Tina. During a party, she hooked up with Marina and got confused--was she making a mistake with Tim? Poor Tim stumbled upon her and Marina. They wound up eloping to Vegas but Tim realized that he made a mistake. He left her in Vegas and kicked her out of the house but then let her live in the little workshop place that she had been using to work on her writing. She wound up dating more women (her and Dana even tried hooking up one night) and then dated another man, which Tim freaked out about because she had told him that if she wanted to be with a man, that he was the man she would be with. At the end of the season, they decided to get divorced and that Jenny should move out.
• Marina: Owner of local restaurant/gay hangout called The Planet. In a long-term relationship with Francesca, who is out of town for her job for long periods of time, and they both agreed to an "open" relationship with the agreement that when Francesca is in town, it's just the two of them. Marina wound up falling in love with Jenny and at the end of the season, it looked like it was over with her and Francesca. Marina's character is not coming back this season so who knows how that will be handled.
• Kit: Is Bette's older recovering alcoholic sister (who's been sober for just a couple of months). Kit has had a hard live and she'd do anything for the people she cares about. She's working on her career as a singer and, I think, song writer. At the end of the season, she had a drag king named Ivan falling for her. Kit tried telling Ivan that if she was a guy, then she'd be the perfect guy. Could it be possible that Kit joins our team this season?

At the end of the last episode, Alice went to Dana's and told her that she couldn't marry that gal and wound up kissing Dana, who more than eagerly kissed Alice back. Tina and Bette got into a physical fight mixed with sex (all of us here at okclesbian didn't care for that, along with the fact that we were disappointed that they could keep the "stable" couple "stable.") Kit and Ivan were still hanging out. Shane got told by the married gal that even though she felt things that she never felt before from being with Shane, that there was no way she'd leave her husband and all of the money to be with a 25 year-old hair dresser.

There are so many questions heading into the next season: Will Tina and Bette reconcile? Will Jenny quit talking in that obnoxious whisper type voice? Will Dana and Alice get together? Will Alice find proof that it Dana's weird girlfriend posioned Dana's cat? Will Kit and Ivan get together? Will Shane allow herself to feel without fear?
