Episode Twelve

rainbow_thinline (2K)

Previously, on The L Word. . .

The last show of the season started 6 weeks later and Alice is drugging again and hooking up with Lara. Alice tells Lara to scratch her hard because she wants to feel something.

The regular opening is back so I'm guessing the theme music is here to stay but changes will be made for next season.

Jenny, Max, Bette, Alice, Helena, and Lara are all together having dinner and talking about whether or not they think Shane will go through with the wedding. Alice and Lara obviously didn't ride over together as Alice leaves without her.

Helena is springing for the wedding--it's her gift to Shane and Carmen. The whole gang and family are going to go to Canada and have the wedding at a ski resort. Helena has paid for 15 rooms and has invited Carmen's family, without Carmen knowing about it.

Shane goes to meet her father and almost leaves before meeting him. He invites her to dinner to meet his wife and son. She realizes that she's a lot like her father. She tells them that she's getting married and they both assume that it's to a guy but she tells him that it's to a woman. Her father's wife suggests that they go to the wedding and her dad points out that they're not exactly invited and Shane invites them.

Carmen is trying on wedding dresses and Bette comments about how her and Tina were going to get wedding dresses when they talked about getting married. Bette was asked why they didn't get married and Bette says it's because "Tina didn't want to cleave to the heterosexual paradigm." Alice responds with, "Now it's cleaving all over her."

Kit thinks she's pregnant and shows Bette the results of her pregnancy test. Bette says that it can't be because Kit is in menopause and that home pregnancy tests aren't reliable and that more than one is needed. Kit shows her a dozen tests all with positive results. She tells Angus, who is thrilled, but reminds him that it's her decision.

Max and Jenny go to dinner with some IT geeks. Okay, I'm an IT geek but even I'm not as nerdy as those people. Jenny is spacing off and the other woman there points out that she starts thinking about a lot of different things when the men start talking. Jenny, being the conversationalist that she is, says that she was thinking about a piece that she's going to write about how when she was 12, she used to masterbate "like 20 times a day." Of course that comment is greated with silence.

Throughout the show, Alice is shown doing that yarn Cat's Cradle thing that most of us probably did as kids--and which I wasn't good at:-)

The entire gang goes to Canada and Peggy Peabody, Helena's mom, also goes. She about shits when she learns that Helena has paid for all of it, including the air fare for Carmen's family to fly up and says, "I guess it grows on trees."

Carmen's family does show up and embraces Carmen and Shane with open arms. Carmen's mom tells Shane that she can't see the bride until the ceremony and Carmen goes off with her family.

Jenny meets a lesbian writer while Max is off skiing and winds up hooking up with her.

The gang gathers for Shane's bachelor party and the subject of kids comes up. Shane says that she thinks she wants kids. Carmen has a surprise for Shane--some singers rap a song that starts off with "Pussy 101."

Tina and Bette do a family thing with Angelica and actually have a decent time together. Tina says that she hopes they can do family things for Angelica and that maybe down the road, take vacations together. Bette has second thoughts about suing for sole custody and calls and leaves a message for her lawyer not to send the letter to Tina's lawyer.

Lara wants to talk to Alice, who has gone down to her room for sex. Alice asks her what she wants to talk about and Lara says she wants to talk about what's happening between them and Alice says that she doesn't want to talk and leaves.

Helena tells Shane's dad that if there's anything he needs, to talk to her and she mentions how she's paid for the whole thing--letting him know that she's got money.

Alice talks to the marriage commissioner, who winds up being the woman shown in one of the flashbacks earlier this season (the women's group one) and who had a fling with Peggy Peabody back in the 70s (which was shown in a flashback last season, if I remember correctly).

Henry shows up and tries talking Tina out of letting Bette adopt Angelica. He points out that he would never be able to adopt her if they get married and Tina stands up for Bette and says that Bette is Angelica's other parent, etc. Henry is concerned about Bette always being tied to them and Tina says it's not any different than in any other type of relationship. At that point, Tina gets the letter from Bette's lawyer about Bette wanting to sue for sole custody. Bette is up on a ski lift and gets a call from her lawyer informing her that the stuff was already sent to Tina's lawyer and there's no getting it back. Bette tries to call Tina and tell her to ignore the letter.

Shane catches her dad with another woman. Her dad tells her that it's just who he is and that he knows that Shane knows what he's talking about.

Everyone's gathered for the wedding and Bette goes over to Tina and asked her why she hasn't called her back. Tina tells Bette that she doesn't want her to adopt *her* daughter.

The announcement is made--Shane is backing out of the wedding. I could not believe that they were going to do that. Carmen is devastated and says that all she wants is to go home with her family.

Later, Max, Jenny, and the writer that Jenny hooked up with, go to a straight club. Jenny says that she wants to dance with the writer and Max points out that it's a straight club and that they shouldn't do that. Jenny tells Max that he will always be one of us and Max tries to disagree.

The next day, Lara and Alice are talking and Lara tells Alice that there's something she needs to tell Alice. They get interrupted when Henry, Tina, Helena and Peggy show up. They learn that Shane's dad "found" $10,000 and took off with the gal he picked up at the bar. Turns out that Helena had given him the money because he said that he didn't have any and wanted to buy Shane a wedding present. Helena's mother announces that she's cutting Helena off financially and wants Helena to learn that people like her for her--not her money. And with that, Peggy hops into a car with the marriage commissioner and they take off together.

Henry and Tina go back to the hotel room later that night and discover that Bette has taken Angelica. Bette is shown driving off with Angelica saying that they're going to go away until Bette can figure things out.

Okay, we have all sorts of possibilities now for next season. Is the actress who plays Carmen's contract up? Lara and Alice haven't talked--so they could or could not be heading towards a romance. I'm thinking not--Lara's character has always been in the background. What are they going to do with Max? That character has never really fit in--even when he was a she and it's all personality, IMO. The writers never fully developed that character--there was a lot to explore, IMO but they didn't as the focus was on Dana's cancer (as well it should be). What will happen between Bette and Tina and will Tina come back to our team? How will Helena do as a non-rich person? And will Shane do what many of us have struggled to do--break the family cycle?

Next season should be an interesting one--too bad we have to wait almost a year for it to start.
