Previously, on The L Word. . .
It was a very muted opening for this episode. They didn't have the regular opening theme and there were just flashes of Dana as the cast names appeared.
The gang is at Dana's funeral. They are a bit disgruntled because they are forced to sit in the back as the front rows are for family and "close" friends. The pastor starts talking and obviously knows nothing about Dana. He goes on about how she didn't have the chance to fall in love, etc. Shane and Carmen make comments, disagreeing, and Alice reassures them saying that they all know otherwise. But when the pastor goes on about how Dana hadn't had the chance to fall in love with a man, Alice stands up and says, "What are you talking about? Dana was gay."
The gang wasn't invited to Dana's parents' house becuase it was only for friends of the family who the family has known for years. Bette leaves to go and spend time with Angelica before her other mother takes her out for the afternoon with her new man friend and the others wait for Alice, who winds up stealing some of Dana's ashes and announces that they are going to have their own memorial service.
Back at Bette and Tina's house, Henry is there with his son, Mikey, and poor Bette gets asked to take a family picture by Mikey. Bette goes to see the lawyer Tina used last year because she wants to get sole custody of Angelica. When she gets back home, she sees Tina and Henry in the kitchen being all lovey dovey and she goes over to Angus and Kit's. I'm sorry but that was totally rude of Tina. You're there telling the guy that you're sleeping with that you still love your ex-lover and she knows that Bette is upset but yet she's going to rub Bette's face into it?
Dylan stops by Helena's house and drops off a package. In it is a torn up check, her footage for her documentary and an apology video that she made for Helena. She says that she's been running away from her sexual orientation for a long time. Dylan apparently has left the guy because her car was loaded up with all of her stuff.
Max gets offered a better job at the place he was dissed at before when he was neither fish nor fowl. Jenny's bothered that Max is willing to go and work for the company who rejected him when he was Moira.
Shane is really torn up about Dana's death. She asks Carmen to marry her but Carmen doesn't give her an answer.
Alice pours Dana's ashes into two containers--one she keeps for herself and the other she takes to the memorial service, which they hold at the camp that Dana went to as a kid.
During the memorial service, the girls flashback to their different experiences with Dana. Alice tells them how she met Dana while writing for a women's sports magazine and how Dana freaked when Alice asked her questions along the line if Dana was gay. They laugh about how she used to be so in the closet and how at the Y2K party at Tina and Bette's, Dana brought a gay guy who she tried passing off as her boyfriend. Jenny confesses to the group that her and Dana fooled around once (I thought it was interesting that Carmen accused her of making it up for attention). Shane told the group how she took Dana to a concert because Dana was upset over the breakup with Lara and how she got Dana to try acid.
They go down to the waterfall and take turns throwing Dana's ashes into the waterfall. Shane loses it and says that things aren't okay and leaves beforehand and Carmen follows her. Carmen finally tells Shane that she will marry her.
Alice drives back to Dana's house that evening and Lara is sitting out on the stoop. Once inside, Lara starts crying and then Alice starts crying and then they start kissing.
Next time: I can't believe it's the end of the season but it looks to be an interesting season finale. Shane and Carmen plan their wedding and it looks like they work things out with Carmen's family. Kit thinks she's pregnant. Bette appears to take off with Angelica.
