Journeys

I talked to the mountain,
I washed in the stream.
I hiked through the valley,
And let out a scream.
How can I sort this out
What does it mean?
Has my mind gone crazy,
Where is my life leading me?

I drove out to the desert
Just to clear my mind.
Enough sand to fill an hour glass
Till the end of time.
So I wondered `bout the time I've spent
And how much I have left.
And all the things that I could do,
But which choice is the best?

I went to the reservoir
And walked along the dam.
On one side I saw a lake
Where once there was dry land.
The other side a deep dry gorge
Where once the water flowed.
And even if I broke the dam
It won't be like before.

So I took a plane ride
High above the fair.
It just went around and `round
Up in the air.
I looked below and saw
The tiny things down there,
But then when we landed,
Their size became more clear.

I went on the rooftop,
Looked across the sea of lights.
Each one like a heartbeat
Shining in the night.
I sat in the dark
Staring at the sight.
Searching for an ember
So my heart would reignite.

I found no embers in the mountains,
Or in the desert sand.
I found none at the reservoir
When I stood on the dam.
I found none in the clouds
When I was on the plane,
But sitting in the darkness
I can see them fly my way.

Sometimes the light is blinding
And we must close our eyes to see,
Use our other senses to
feel and smell the breeze,
listen for a direction
then follow the lead,
to the sweetest satisfaction
you will ever need.
