Heart Disease

Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in women. Heart Disease kills approximately 250,000 women of all ages and ethnicity every year.

The signs and symptoms of heart disease and heart attacks are not the same for women as they are for men.

Men experience chest and arm pain. A vast majority of female heart attack survivors reported NO PAIN. 70% did report unusual fatigue, sleep disturbances, shortness of breath, indigestion and anxiety approximately 1 month prior to the heart attack.

Less than 30% experienced chest discomfort: aching, tightness or pressure-again-NO PAIN.

Only half of those surveyed reported chest discomfort during the actual heart attack. They were more likely to experience shortness of breath, weakness and fatigue.

The American Heart Association has a risk-reduction program for women. Call toll free at 888-694-3278.
